The route starts at the Fanchini Museum in Oleggio, an ideal starting point not only for collecting your credential, but also for immediately immersing yourself in the history of the area. From here, the trail passes through the old town, among historic buildings and architectural features dating back to the Longobard era, dominated by the distinctive tower. Leaving the town centre behind, you reach the railway station and then the cemetery, where you will find the beautiful Romanesque Church of San Michele, the first historical landmark along the route.

Among cycle paths, painted villages and vineyards

The route continues along a pleasant cycle path towards Mezzomerico, known as the “painted village” for its murals. After passing through the town centre, the trail climbs through the vineyards and hills, offering increasingly wide views until it reaches one of the area’s most unusual attractions: the Giant Bench, perfect for a scenic break.

Continuing onwards, the landscape opens up even further, offering spectacular views of the Alps. The route then enters the area around Suno, where it is enriched by unique natural and geological features, such as the distinctive “böse” and the large glacial erratic boulder known as Preja da scalavé.

Between earth and sky: the observatory and the vineyards

One of the most fascinating points along the trail is the Galileo Galilei Astronomical Observatory in Suno, which adds an unexpected dimension to the route, symbolically connecting the surrounding landscape with the sky.

The trail continues through neat rows of vines and rural landscapes before descending once again towards the valley. Here, it meets the diversion leading to the centre of Suno, before continuing along the route.

Arrival in Bogogno and the scenic alternative route

The final part of the route leads to the picturesque village of Bogogno, the finishing point of this stage, set in a captivating natural landscape surrounded by vineyards.

For those looking for a more challenging experience, an alternative route between Suno and Bogogno passes by the charming Cascina Montecchio. From here, the trail climbs through the vineyards to the ruins of the Church of San Quirico, following a route marked exclusively with painted signs and therefore recommended for more experienced hikers.
